What are Ukrainian Eggs?
The egg is consdered by many to be a symbol of life and fertility. Some pre-Christian cultures even believed that the original source of creation is symbolized by the egg and that the world would be good if eggs were decorated with many symbols of immortality, power, and life. Psanka, also known as Ukrainian Easter eggs, represent a blending of Pagan and Christian belief.

The Ukrainian people believe that the psanka possess talismanic power and can bring good fortune, health, and protection from fire by having several of them in the home. Psanka are said to cure what ails man and beast. Whether these claims are true or not is subject for debate. At the very least, the psanka is perfect for the 'person who has everything'.

The Psanka (psanky is the plural) is created by a waxing and dying process similar to batik. First, beeswax lines are 'drawn' on lightly dyed eggs. The wax protects the dyed area from subsequent dye baths. The entire process of wax line drawing and dying is repeated with darker and darker dyes. The wax is then melted off. The result is a beautiful multi-colored work of art. Our psanky are handmade using traditional Ukrainian techniques. Mechanical egg lathes are never used.

EACH EGG IS FIFTEEN DOLLARS, POSTAGE PAID. A BASKET OF EIGHT EGGS, ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, ALSO POSTAGE PAID. SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED. CASH, CHECKS AND MONEY ORDERS ACCEPTED.
